Subject: A few more medals

I think the medals are a good addition and that they may encourage players to explore some of the overlooked corners of the game. I certainly wouldn't suggest a medal for every possible mouse click, but there do seem to be a few overlooked medal possibilities:

* 'Emerged from the Abandoned Factory Alive'
* 'Received a blessing from the Old Church'
* 'Drank a Gargleblaster and survived'
* 'Died from a slice of poisoned cake'

Other suggestions for medals?

Those medals have already been made, Zpatula; they've simply yet to be implemented.

And a fine job you have done.

Will there be a medal for 'Owns a humming sphere'? By the way, has that thing hatched yet? Eek!

I have no idea what yer talking about.

Will there be a medal (or a use for) the rare and old coin?

CakeFail is available, but understandably rare.
Wonder how many people will be losing a lot of charm to get the Skronky Disaster medal.
I did.

Use all your charm in the gauntlet first, and then do it!

I'm just annoyed that it hasn't remembered my previous Skronky fail by me hacking into the pot again... But I suppose I could use some more HP anyway.

Z, do you have an 'I was broomed by Phyllis and all I got was a lousy medal' medal?

That's still pretty much a theory, mate... He hasn't finished with us.

Another idea:

"I lost my epic chariot, and all I got was this lousy medal."

What about an "expert medal collector," "supreme medal collector," etc. set?

Now you're just getting ridiculous.

But yeah...Surviving Phyllis, S(t)ink, Paul, G, calli, etc. should earn a medal...

Much love, fellow GERMans! XD

Ridiculous? As pertaining to the Island? Big Grin

IMHO it'd be perfectly in keeping with the humour of the game. Medals aren't worth a damned thing, after all and there'll be 300 or more of them coming.

I'm damned sure there'll be people who make it their life task to collect as many as they can...

So a medal collector's set - say, one for each 100 medals collected - would fit in quite well.

I'm all for self-referencing meta-medals. In fact, I really hope there's a " 'Medal Collectors Medal' Collectors Medal", that you recieve when you get the whole collection of the medal collecting medals. See http://xkcd.com/688/ for details

More medal ideas:

- Too much money (req's) to know what to do with it (:100,000 plus)
- Rolling stone (has been on every mapblock.. :/ difficult implementation?)
- Master Carpenter (-- coupled to building skills/acheivements?)
- Honorary Failor (number of times on failboat?)

The hall of fame lists are pretty cool -- is there a way to link them to medals? (yeah, that might be a bit of work, that.. )

Let's add a thieving bastard medal for those @#$*! who keep stealing logs and stones from other people's construction yards!

As I've pointed out before, it is impossible in principle for the game to tell the difference between thieving bastards, and fine upstanding citizens who pick up logs or stones because they are working together with friends.

Easy problem, and a very easy solution!

Award every one a golden thieving bastard medal, whether they be rookies or not.
Once they hit logging and stone cutting level average of 10 it changes to silver. Once they hit 25 average, it becomes bronze. Once they peak past 50, it disappears.
No need to install any special flags or traps Twisted Evil

That would make those who don't steal or claim they don't would feel bad until they get those levels. And those that do steal wouldn't like it since they're not getting rewarded for stealing.

Make it so it rewards it to people if their stone cutting or logging is half their carpentry or masonry skill for bronze. gathering skill is a third of the building skill for silver. And finally gathering skill is a fourth of the building skill for gold. And make it something like you can only get it after carpentry or masonry are over level 20 for bronze, 30 for silver and 40 for gold.

With this set up, you could create the complement where someone likes to gather and not build so they would get a gathering award to says they've helped their friends and given supplies to TMBs.

Not necessarily. There's a lot of dwellings which are being built as joint ventures with two or more people. It would make a lot of sense for one person to concentrate on resource gathering and the other to concentrate on construction, using materials supplied by the first person, and not filched at all.

Also, it's starting to get into unpleasent territory a little isn't it?

Well it's a tough spot to get into because there would be no EXACT way of knowing if your stealing or helping. The way I suggested may have some problems, it's better approach then other people's idea. Unless you were to make it so the server adds something to your account everytime you pick up a large pile of stones and/or logs and moves away from that square.

But that would slow the server down since it would mean one more thing it has to do.

There's really no way for the server to tell the difference between cooperation and thievery; tying the thief medal to gather/build ratios is an interesting idea, but since some teams have specialists (I cut, you join), the builders in those teams would get penalized for being efficient.

I would like to see more medals and more items added to the HoF (and some HoF lists expanded, such as most monster kills and quester, to encompass the whole population), but I don't think that a negative medal is the way to brand thieves. (Heck, you know there are people who would become thieves just to earn another medal.)
