I'm sure this has been suggested before, but when I looked I didn't see it.

From a load balancing perspective, wouldn't it make sense to stagger when new days happened for different players? Like split everyone into four groups and have a new day occur for one group an hour. Maybe have crates drop once an hour, but only one quarter of them. Or maybe tag crates specifically for groups, that way you don't get everyone logging in once an hour to search. For instance if you are in group two, when your new day would start their would be crates dropped, but only group two players could find them. Maybe after one hour the crates become visible to everyone. This would change the server crunch (and slowdown) every four hours to a mini-crunch every hour.

Crate drops are dependent on donations, not New Day routines. They used to be dependent on New Day. Now, it's 10 crates per 100 DPs donated.

Well that makes it even easier then, just change peoples 'newday' times around. No idea if that makes it easy or anything though.

The introduction of Chronospheres should have had this effect, at least for those of us who've bought extras. Though I don't know what proportion of the population that would be.

I could be just me, but the page loads still seem a little slower around newday times. Though I have to say, the new server is pretty cool.
