Apologies if this has been covered before but I looked around and didn't see this particular question addressed.

What kind of monsters exactly are you looking for?

I'm guessing Hitchhiker's Guide references are way too overdone and you don't really need any more. What about other pop culture-y references? Are they okay? I'm guessing by monsters such as "Star Wars Nerd" and "Harry Potter Reenactor" that you don't want references to those?

Are more Lion suggestions okay or do we have enough of those sneaky bastards?

Pop culture references -- no. Just, no. We already have far, far too many pop culture references in the game. Quite frankly, most of them are grandfathered in, and would not make the cut today.

And lions? CMJ wrote the lions; you're not going to be able to top them.

As a general rule, what we are looking for is monsters that are not like anything we have now. Diversify!

It could be funny, could be scary, or weird... Practically speaking, we do also want to keep the meat system sort-of balanced, and we've been getting a lot of abstractions coming in lately, so well-written monsters that could plausibly have some meat on them have a bit of an edge right now.

This guide on the wiki is basically what Sessine said, but with a few more tips on what to avoid.

Actually, better still than 'diversify!' ...

Try to expand cleverly and creatively on the more interesting elements of the world's canon. Bring in some relaypunk. Bring in some interesting and Improbable things that are unique to this world, like the witchblooms that show up in the Common Ground. Bring in some things that might be relevant to a theoretical future, rather than the pop culture of the present. Make monster submissions into somethin' more than "hurr hurr here's this one shot joke with an unexpected assailant!", make 'em constructive. Give us a sense of place.

But don't worry, it's not like Z sets high standards or anything Wink

Speaking of Monster Suggestions.......

(See how I brought this back around to topic? Yeah, let's see how long that lasts...)

-On the topic of monsters, I would like to say that I personally love flesh and bone monsters. Not to say that the more abstract monsters are bad...but they are nearly impossible to really utilize in role-playing. It would be nice to have a few more tangible monsters to include in scenes every once in a while.

I was honestly considering writing a couple more appliance-based monsters just to populate the lower levels in a theme. Dehumidifiers with identity issues (you're an AC unit, right?), ovens with the power of Stop Time, a sad blender with dull blades... but these monsters are not diverse because they're in theme with the rice cooker and uh... that other appliance-based monster that I'm totally forgetting right now.

Welp, I'll put those ideas on the backburner.

See what I did there? Mr. Green

Its the toaster.
