May as well make a thread for this now, I guess.

I'm okay with it, actually... It doesn't seem to be slowing down my page load time.

EDIT: Toggle it in yer prefs. Also, Stamina actions now give 80-120 xp per op as a base, rather than the straight 100.

Interesting, but the ability to toggle it would be welcome.

(Mostly because being constantly reminded that Silcatra and Kestrel are both better at fighting than I am is a blow to my ego.) <- this is a joke.

I like it, because it's probably a neat option for people who like to make sure they're always at the top of whatever cooking/insult page.

As in, a random number between that range?

And having it not slow down pagegen times was... well, quite a feat of kludging engineering.

I rather like it myself. I can see that I might want to turn it off at some point, but at the moment its still good. It will encourage competition I would imagine.

And it will help keep those of us who are, um, already competing... Mr. Green from reloading a whole expensive list every time we want to check our progress. So, a slick new feature and a net saving in resources! Nice going!

So far I'm certainly not opposed to it. It's kinda fun seeing who's more or less been doing this for so long.

Feels like an improvement, especially for Jokers. Incredibly random. I like it.

Oh, is this on by default for newbies? I've already heard a few comments about not 'stuffing the full interface in my face.' and this could be one of those things.

I'm not keen, actually. If I want to know my ranking, I'll go and look it up. I don't want to see it at the bottom of every page while I'm fighting, hunting, travelling etc. I vote for having it off by default. Thanks for the toggle, though.

Gotta say I like it.

Certainly not slowing anything down as far as I can tell.

Having become a recent HOF watcher I like seeing how close I'm getting to the next rung in the ladder in 'real time'

based on preliminary data (only two game days worth), it feels like the new stamina randomizer is cutting my XP gain by approximately half.
1st day was a high stamina cost travel day and the game day i just completed was a low stamina cost travel day. previously i had noticed a casual relationship between stam. cost and XP gain; however both days the XP gain was 50~70 per action, which is low for my joker riding a scrambler.
the other stat i was aware of was my running away skill, both days it was getting 20~38 XP; i can honestly say, i cannot remember ever having such low XP gain for running away before.

again, i say: this is preliminary
mainly just raising awareness on the issue and see if others are getting the same vibe Question

I personally find it appealing.
At first it seemed kind of bold and out of place. Just, BOOM. Right there.
But giving it some time, it actually grew on me as I would catch a glimpse and say to myself, "Oh, I just moved up a rank," or "Oh, I didn't know they were right next to me in rank!"

On a very similar note though, what I find most attractive about it is:
Seeing people on the list as I go through it, makes me notice their names more so than just seeing them in the contestant list. I might say "I remember seeing their name at ________!" Whether it be the list or a passing square, or grabbing some money from an outpost before I dash off again. Seeing that extra kick from being at a near rank makes me 'notice' these different players. And in turn, I might go look search them up, become more interested in them, or simply give them an unseen nod and keep on going.

Either way, my feedback is positive, but not so much as a competitive level (Although it is interesting to me for that reason too), but on a social-relations level. I'm impressed.

I don't usually post on the forums, but I do read them.

That's how I felt, too... As CMJ probably realized with my endless edits of my original reply (sorry!)

I've actually spotted a couple things that aren't right already, though... Like Boudicca being one rank ahead of me in logging. It's fucking on.

Nope. 80-120, plus now you're looking at it.

Nope. 80-120, plus now you're looking at it.

That would be 80-120 compounded by Joker variability. So the worst days are now going to have moments that are much, much worse, and moments that are sorta average. The best days will have moments that are glorious, and others that are... sorta average.

Given that the RNG can be a real bitch sometimes, there are going to be runs of low numbers when you learn very little.

It means that if you're a Joker used to waiting for really good stam-xp days to work on maximizing a skill, and going off and doing something else more useful on the bad days, that's no longer going to be as easy as doing it once and seeing what you get. By the time you figure out it really is a bad day for learning whatever it is you're trying to learn, you'll have wasted half the day.

(Just like real life, I suppose. It happens to me all the time. Banging my head against a stone wall, exactly what I wanted in the game...)

To avoid that (unpleasant and probably unintended) downside, the daily Joker modifiers for stamina xp could be shown in the Stamina Statistics display in another column. Or the number could be shown in some way next to the the last-action bar in the right column.

As for the basic concept, well. Guess it makes sense that sometimes you'd learn more from an experience, sometimes less. I do think robots ought to be varying within a smaller range: 10%, maybe, instead of 20%. The way the code is set up might make that hard to do, though, as it's the base rate for everyone that's being modified.

AND I AM GOING TO WIIIIIN.

I mean. Ahem. Yes. I like it. Not like it'll be visible when I'm locked in mortal combat with my dearest competition. I like that it's at the bottom of the page and not cluttering it up. But for the stamina thing... Can I have that in very simple english please? What does all this mean?

EDIT! Nevermind, I think... THINK I gots it.
