An interesting read in general, and post-EMT in particular.

Reading the part about the military especially puts an interesting twist on the Improbable Island universe. Warfare would essentially be thrown back to the beginning of the 20th century, so the whole landscape outside the Island could be completely different.

I've always imagined in my own personal head-canon that the US especially would become more divided across state lines, and that the federal government could even lose some of its power as states internalize more -- for better or for worse. Furthermore, removing the 24-hour news cycle -- even "temporarily," since TV does eventually come back in this universe -- would definitely have a dramatic effect on people's lives, so I doubt anyone has a clear picture of what's going on around the other side of the world anymore (not that we really do now, either, since 'trusted' sources are easily to fabricate on the Internet Razz).

Something something unintelligible gibberish something.
