Welcome to the Enquirer!

Hello!  Welcome to the Enquirer, Improbable Island's first, last, and only trashy tabloid rag!

I'll work on making this place look pretty over the next few days.  For now, please don't hesitate to create an account and post your suggestions and bug reports in the forum!

Have fun!

-Admin CavemanJoe

EDIT:  You can post anonymously, yes, but you'll have to pass a CAPTCHA test each time, and that's no fun at all.
EDIT EDIT: No, we don't even have a logo yet.  It's just that beta.  And you're here to see it!  How exciting! :D
EDIT EDIT EDIT: Visually-impaired users, please E-mail enquirer@improbableisland.com with your requested username if you can't get past the CAPTCHA.  Thanks to Velle for pointing that out.
EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT: Actually, given that you have to verify your E-mail address to get posting rights (and most spammers don't bother to do so), I've disabled the CAPTCHA for registration.

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT BLOODY EDIT: Guys, please stop posting bugs in the comments for this story.  Use comments on individual blog posts if you're commenting specifically on something contained in the blog entry.  Having the game's bugs and feedback scattered throughout the forums, Petitions, and comments on blog posts means I have to check more places every day, and it's a bloody nightmare as it is.  Unless the bug is related to something in a new blog entry (for example, if I were to make a blog post about a trading module and you found a bug in it (and the story is still on the front page)), bugs go in the Bugs forum!  Cheers.

Idea: Leveling Mercenaries
Authored by: Kestrel on Thursday, February 28 2008 @ 01:41 AM UTC
As soon as I got Caroline the Speed Medic, leveling became a breeze. Currently, the only hindrance I really have by having a mercenary is that they take requisition to heal; but since you're able to kill things twice as efficiently, the costs don't balance out. This is all and good, given the costs of hiring a merc in the first place, but after Caroline died for the first time, I realized that she never once changed as I kept her through about 8 levels. When I re-hired her, however, she had double the hitpoints of the first time around, indicating that she leveled to keep pace with me.

As a result of this, I propose this:

-Costs of mercs need to be slightly higher. I was more bummed about losing three ciggys than a thousand req.

-Mercs should sap away from your earned experience and level accordingly; this will increase the costs of having them, but also make them more valuable long-term, since my level 6 Caroline got pasted in one hit, while the level 14 Caroline is tougher, meaner, and better; I just wish I hadn't had to re-hire her.

-Caroline should be nixed on her attack a bit; she ripostes oftentimes for as much damage as I inflict normally. I don't know if this is intentional or not.

Cool, gimme a holler with responses.

restocking
Authored by: Balmoth on Thursday, February 28 2008 @ 06:04 PM UTC

ok quick question. How does the restocking works? cause I wanted to get the best boots but they seem to be always sold out. Is it limited numbers of a certain item in the game or do I keep missing the restoking hour

Clan Info
Authored by: Dutchdoor on Tuesday, March 04 2008 @ 03:38 AM UTC
Would it be possible to give updates as to how many cigs are needed to get the next upgrade?  I believe it told us that we needed 100 for the first one, but we're up to 140 now and unable to add another buff (and would like to know how many more smokes we'll need before we can).  Thanks.

Otherwise, fantastic game!

Well, not "otherwise," really.  It's not like that little nothing problem is making this a not fantastic game or something.

Also, once you fix the bug for the shack attacks (getting WAY too much exp), could you reset the Hall of Fame for Drive Kill time?  I COULD have killed it in three days once but chose not to in favor of trying to finish a quest, and that would NEVER have been possible without performing five or six attacks on people in housing.  This, again, isn't important, but it would be nice to know how fast people kill the thing legitimately.

Clan Buffs Again
Authored by: Dutchdoor on Saturday, March 15 2008 @ 12:37 AM UTC

So, at what point do we get a second clan buff?  We have 241 ciggies stored in our bank but there still isn't an option to buy a buff.  So far we just have the one round of clan buff and that's it.  Is the second round THAT much more expensive or is there something wrong with the purchasing of the buffs?

I just  received your e-mail letting me know about my upcoming character deletion and requesting feedback if I was planning on letting it go through. Your link brought me here so this is where I am responding. I found many aspects of the game interesting initially but after a while it just got repetitive and boring. Once you have read the same amusing responses once, forced repetition (jungle fights) just gets annoying. There also didn't seem to me to be any further point to the game. I beat the drive. Beating it over and over in more or less the same manner just isn't fun for me.

A note on puzzles and  game mechanics. I enjoy puzzles and strategy. I don't enjoy though figuring out what the rules are supposed to be. Some people do - for me though, it's just an exercise in frustration. I want to know for example, what if anything tattoos do. I want to know what cigarettes do and at what point you get an addiction. I want to understand why people could beat me up and I couldn't beat them up even though it looked like we were equipped the same way.  I don't get a 'thrill of discovery' from the trial an error of figuring out how to play the game. Again this is just my viewpoint which you requested. I know not everyone is going to share it.

Last, I was not happy with the way the messaging system works. I would prefer some way of real time chat - at least with alliance members if not people in game. I was constantly feeling lost and I think the real time chat would have helped. We use Ajax chat module on one of the BBS that I admin. That might or might not help you.

I hope that helps you out.  :)  Good luck!

PS I tried to log in so you this message would not be listed as anonymous but I guess the notice that is sent out isn't a notice of impending deletion but one to let people know they have already been deleted.
