What do you listen to? This is a question I often ask people on gmail chat when I'm bored and I want new music. You know, something to dislodge that song I've had stuck in my head for the past... oh, eon or so? Yeees. Anyhow, people being lovely as they are, oblige me, and so now I have a couple less then twenty playlists from Islanders, with tastes ranging across the board. I've got Black Sabbath, I've got Bollywood, Gilbert and Sullivan and Daft Punk and Disney-songs and Miss Saigon and Michael Jackson and Pachelbel Canon in D. I find this to be epically awesome.
So. I ask you all, forum-lurkers: What you listen to? Tell me, send me YouTube links, take a look at pieces of other people's minds on the playlists I've already got. I love music and I want to listen to it all. And who knows, maybe you'll find a new favorite artist, maybe someone shares your taste in music and a new friendship is born, maybe you'll find something to get that godawful pop song out of your head. I think sharing of music can only lead to good things. Here's hoping you'll all agree.

It's the best feelgood song evereverever!
I even listen to it when I am not on Island. I clean, and do chores to this song.

I listen to Last.fm a lot nowadays. Artist stations - mostly Cake or Telefon Tel Aviv. There's some music here and there in my youtube uploads and favorites... http://www.youtube.com/babehuth
Telefon Tel Aviv really is fantastic. I keep a copy of their live remix of Stolen Moments up on my webhost just to link to people who like third stream and electronic music. http://www.alexhuth.com/music/stolen_moments_airiemix.mp3
I listen to a fair bit of music from independent artists, signed and unsigned, who participate in SongFight! or similar online music communities. There's a lot of utter shite but also a lot of really good stuff if you don't mind low-fidelity recordings.
My CD collection consists of mostly jazz, plus a ton of Zappa and TMBG, with some Pink Floyd and Queen to round out the set. Unfortunately I'm unable to link you to that.
Warning - cartoon violence and lions
On another note...
Differently...
Unofficial GERM anthem
Creepy video, good song...
Classic
I could go on, but I think you possibly get the point?
They Might Be Giants, Linkin Park, Burl Ives, Flogging Molly, Doctor Steel, Tally Hall, Dirt Poor Robins, Fatboy Slim, Kaizers Orchestra, Jason Forrest a.k.a. DJ Donna Summer, No More Kings, Switchfoot, DC Talk, Rockapella, Yoko Kanno, Origa
And Daft Punk most definitely. =^-^=
I haven't listened to this Playlist in a year, because I've got no sound on the computer.
However, people seem to like it, so it might help:
http://www.playlist.com/playlist/17897520139
Apparently the site's been deleting songs off. It used to have 147 songs.
Now it has like...half.

Cripes. I tend to listen to one thing repeatedly until it bores me, then move on. Most recently:
Doctor Steel, My Life With The Thrill Kill cult, Gorillaz, Complete History Of The Soviet Union, Arranged To The Melody Of Tetris, The Beatles, and anything by Hideki Naganuma, Max Raabe's covers
Older interests include Cake, Yoko Kanno, Bloodhound Gang, Bound Together, Daft Punk, They Might Be Giants, and Jonathan Coulton. I'm sure there are others, but this url list thing is boring to write. Plus I'm listing duplicates of others', but hey, more selections of their work.

This is going to be an interesting list.
The Arkells, Avantasia, Boom Boom Satellites, Cage The Elephant, City and Colour, Coheed and Cambria, Flogging Molly, The Real McKenzies, Foo Fighters, Dropkick Murphys, Great Big Sea, Joel Plaskett, and to finish the list off, Wolfmother.
Wouldn't know where to start with what I like. I guess everything from Ry Cooder to Mozart with a huge dollop of underground UK funky house.
Right now (in the car) I'm enjoying revisiting Black Crowes and Peal Jam.
Lessee here... Mainly Rock'n'Roll, with some country, electronica and techno/trance music. I'll pretty much listen to anything though.*
*Even if it's really terrible. I have no taste, I suppose.

Best song of theirs in my opinion
There definitely are others that will keep on popping up
Also, is there anything that ISN'T on youtube?
I frequently listen to things by Sonata Arctica, Kamelot, Muse, Billy Joel, all that sort of thing.
Also, is there anything that ISN'T on youtube?
Oh, yes, definately. Not counting 'mobile phone vids' of shows, there's a lot of realy great stuff that naver makes it there, mostly for lack of an official video.

I'm afraid Youtube has it.
Yes, Virginia
In no particular order:
Kevin Gilbert - Shadow Self
L'affaire Louis' Trio - Le Capitaine
Koenji Hyakkei - Rattims Friezz
Peter Gabriel - The Drop
Gentle Giant - Knots
Duke Special - Freewheel
King Crimson - The Howler
Zero 7 - The Pageant
Brian Eno - The Big Ship
Any artist that is aware of how important fans are to their success and who is aware of internet will have either a myspace page, a youtube channel or their own website, where you can listen their songs for free. Or rather, at least one of those things. I mean, Jill Sobule* is even on TED.
Some bands who get really pissed off with their record labels will even give their albums out for free, like Nine Inch Nails. Even Jill did something similar, if I remember right.
Youtube's just,... Well, it's for us lazy people. If you want to hear more than one band, neither myspace nor a personal webpage are good for that. So you go for something that can give you more artists. Spotify (or despotify, depending on your preferences), Last.fm, grooveshark** ,... will all offer a much better selection of music than youtube, but they don't have the pretty moving pictures which mesmerize all normal humans. Also, with youtube it's a lot easier to share music, which is the point of this thread, if I understand right, along with the special youtube channel. I honestly can't think of a better outlet to share music.
Anyway, a few more songs to add to the list. There will be more to come, I just need to remember what else I like.
Cypress Hill-What's Your Number
Prozac+ - Acida
Tre allegri ragazzi morti - Il mondo prima
Kosheen - Harder
Another Chance Hed Kandi
* Jill would have goone on my list as well, but it was already in the thread, so I left her out. She's a pretty good artist.
** grooveshark could easily be my best pick, if it weren't for a flash GUI
First off, sorry for the necromancy, but ten years of running a forum has made me twitch uncontrollably any time I start a new thread on an existing topic *anywhere*.
Secondly, I have this Improbable Island playlist I've been editing for a while now, and I thought I'd share the latest pieces.
Because oh my goodness.
Family Force Five
"Zombie"
"Crank it Like a Chainsaw"
Steam Powered Giraffe
"Automatonic Electronic Harmonic"
Lastly, there hasn't been a song dedicated to our illustrious Caveman on my list... until now.
Professor Elemental
"Cup of Brown Joy"
You're welcome!

I only really listened to Imagine Dragons yesterday and then had this conversation with my roommate: "I just found Imagine Dragons and I really don't want to like them." "Why not? They're good, aren't they?" "Yeah, they're great, but it's just that everybody likes them--oh God. I've turned into a hipster!"
And then she just laughed at me for about five minutes straight.
The Dawn.. WoW fans must know it!
It's became my favourite song since the first time heard on {link redacted}
