In which case, repost:

Type: Place naming

Details:
Possible bug: I set my Place's external description and name, decorated it, and after doing a few more internal jobs it reset to the 'Untitled Place' thing for no real reason.

edit: happened again. If I set the external place name/description and leave the whole thing alone, it tends to stick, but working on it for a while has a chance to set the name back to Untitled Place with the default description. Not a big deal if you have a barn raiser, but pretty fucking annoying if you don't.

Type: Barn Raiser

Details:
Doesn't set travel or gathering costs to zero. Could be intentional.

CMJ EDIT: Fixed since I closed the last thread. Remember to check that the bug still exists before you post in here! Wink

Also... okay yeah, since a few folks lost some big stacks of stuff in their Stores, any Barn Raisers used from now will also give you Travel and Gathering for free.

Don't know if this was intentional, but it was VERY needed...

Going over a new day, while still in the Construction Administration, allows you to continue to build with the Barn Raiser.

This is a good thing for now, since currently, it takes at least 1-3 minutes to complete a single task, except decorating, which is actually quite quick. But try adding wood or stone and it takes that long to complete.

Probably just server lag, with everyone trying to build at the same time. I am going to quit after getting a few rooms up and running and wait for the rush to slow down. Eek!

RE: Losing stockpiles

I have already used my Barn Raiser with the thought that I would be getting the stockpiles back at a later point (I.E. to stop people using the sudden ability to free build to massively expand their previously one room dwelling with 10000 logs and 5000 stone in stock). While I realise this might have been considered a mistake on my part, is there any chance at all that I would be able to reclaim any of the materials I had in my Dwelling's stockpile of materials?

If not, Oh well, I will just have to donate more and drink some more of that delicious delicious tea they sell in the Hunter's Lodge.

I'm not sure if this is really a bug, or if I misunderstood what's being refunded. I had 5 beds and a secret room in my dwelling (Tetto Rosso) none of which got refunded to my account- either the cigs, the beds themselves, or the supporter points. Is there any way to get those back?

Also, just saying- Places are freakin' awesome. I'm loving Pages so much right now. Thanks, CMJ!

The Command Access worked for you, the clan part not so much.

Anyways, getting this error:

Running program ID 25, 'Hide Door' at Room ID 283, 'The Clearing'
Contrivance: Pass Through at row 1, column 1 is being checked
Success at row 1 column 1
Row 1 passed OK
Contraption: Hide Door at row 2, column 1 says: Currently set to hide Door ID 250
Success at row 2 column 1

Row 3 passed OK
Row 4 passed OK
Running program ID 48, 'Reveal Door' at Room ID 283, 'The Clearing'
Contrivance: Clan at row 1, column 1 says: Currently set to pass if the player is a member of AIB
Failure at row 1 column 1
Row 1 failed. Aborting program ID 48

And I'm certainly a member of AiB, so yeah

And this is what it looks like as one program:

Running program ID 25, 'Hide Door' at Room ID 283, 'The Clearing'
Contrivance: Pass Through at row 1, column 1 is being checked
Success at row 1 column 1
Row 1 passed OK
Contraption: Hide Door at row 2, column 1 says: Currently set to hide Door ID 250
Success at row 2 column 1
Contraption: Tree Shadows at row 2, column 2 is being checked
Success at row 2 column 2
Contraption: Page Lighter at row 2, column 3 is being checked
Success at row 2 column 3
Row 2 passed OK
Contrivance: Clan at row 3, column 1 says: Currently set to pass if the player is a member of AIB
Failure at row 3 column 1
Row 3 failed. Aborting program ID 25

It's definitely the Clan Contrivance, if the debug doesn't prove it, the fact that I just tested the Tree Shadow with and without it does (works when not under Clan contrivance, doesn't work under it)

I set a contraption up to show a different text in Hendrix courtyard when it rains Running program ID 79, 'Rain' at Room ID 301, 'Main Courtyard'

Contrivance: Weather at row 1, column 2 says: Currently set to pass if the weather is at status number 6

Contraption: Hide Room Description at row 2, column 1 is being checked
Success at row 2 column 1
Contraption: Show Page at row 2, column 2 says: Currently set to show page 'Medium Rain', pageid 198

It works if I go to the courtyard from any internal room in Hendrix but if I access it from the map the Hide Room Description does not work despite the debugging saying it is. The result of this is that I have two similar descriptions of Hendrix, one saying it is raining and one not when I enter from outdoors.

(I accidently created a new topic for this, I meant to just post it here. Whoops)

Didn't happen to me the second time around. Probably just a glitch -- maybe I slept wrong (actually, with the new beds, do you have to use the "Go to sleep" option to activate them?)

I'm likely going to roll in with these as I program the Cabana.

I also just tried to use the "Hide Page Link" Contraption and it's not working. It would seem that the programs can't affect the doors yet. I tried the environmental and warp contraptions and they work just fine.

Double beds seem glitchy.

First, both people have to be in the bed when a newday is triggered for the double thing to take place, no matter what. Can this be changed so that if person 1 triggers a newday with person 2 in the bed, person 2 will get the effect of having slep with person 1 at their next newday? (Does that make sense, what I'm asking for?)

Also, double beds don't always show that they're occupied, sometimes they look empty and when you get in, you've got someone there with you.

OK, I'm the first to say I haven't played a lot with the programming, until now. But here is my Scenario and Observations from what I've done.

Scenario: Room in the Dello accessible only by partners, using a momento as the test.

Try 1:
Program in Atrium:
Used Contrivance "Check if player does NOT have Memento" (works great)
Used Contraption "Warp to Room" (Commons): (Worked Great)

Program in Commons:
Used Contrivance "Check Previous Room": Set to Atrium. (Check Fails)
Used Contraption "Show Page": Shows text explaining why they were transported here. (Does not fire)

Found out the the "Warp to Room" is not setting the RoomID correctly. The Room ID being passed is the previous room you were in (verified by setting the Check Previous Room to that room), before entering the Atrium. This won't work in my situation.

Try 2:
Bought a Memory Slot, put in commons.
Program in Atrium:
Used Contrivance "Check if player does NOT have Memento" (works great)
Used Contraption "Set Memory": Set equal to 1. (will not fire unless Warp to Room is disabled)
Used Contraption "Warp to Room" (Commons): (Worked Great)

Program in Commons:
Used Contrivance "Memory Part Equal". Checks if Memory is set to 1.
Used Contraption "Show Page". Shows text of why warped.
Used Contraption "Set Memory". Set back equal to 0.

The program in the commons always fails, because the memory is never set to 1, even though that Contraption SHOULD fire first, before the Warp to Room.

Anyway, it's a bit frustrating. Using Warp to Room is an awesome item. But it seems to be overwriting the previous row contraptions.

Summary: Warp to Room seems to have two problems. The previous room is not set correctly, though the text SAYS it is.

Running program ID 120, 'Teleported from Atrium' at Room ID 460, 'Common Area'
Contrivance: Memory Part Equal at row 1, column 1 says: Currently set to pass if digit 1 in Track Telporting is exactly 1
Failure at row 1 column 1
Row 1 failed. Aborting program ID 120

Two, the Warp to Room seems to overwrite or fire too fast for any other contraption in a previous row to fire first. The Memory is never set to 1 when Warp to Room is running, so the test in the subsequent program always fails.

I hope this is clear enough... I do programming professionally, so it's not my first rodeo. Smile

Finally THANK YOU! These new options are awesome, despite the headache from the bugs. The Island just became a lot more vibrant and rich for player interaction.

I think that the 'Warp to room' contraption stops any futher program being executed. This is for the very good reason of stopping loops where some poor player enters room A, which warps them to room B, which warps them to room A, which warps them to room B ..., an infinite loop which would start causing some messy problems. So when you warp to the commons, the program in the commons doesn't get looked at.

This means that the advice that I gave Akitsu in another thread is wrong. Bollocks. Oops!

Is this really the case?
I have ROOM A and ROOM B.
Set up a program in ROOM A to warp to ROOM B when the trigger phrase is mentioned. (Door between A and B is hidden)

Program in ROOM B shows the hidden door (so the player can leave the secret room). Seems to work fine for me so far.

According to the Debug, the room you warp too is launching the program correctly. The issue is the Contraption the row above the Warp to Room is not setting the memory.

Without the Warp to Room contraption, the set memory contraption works fine. It just won't fire, doesn't have time to fire, etc. before the Warp to Room stops the execution. (empirical data from observation)

I got a bug which only shows when entering my Place
It seems that coming from the world prevents the proper page blocking.

There are 2 pages, one comment for males one for females.
Default is female. For males the female comment is blocked and the male unblocked.

Running program ID 137, 'Nobby' at Room ID 1061, 'Reception'
Contrivance: Male at row 1, column 1 is being checked
Success at row 1 column 1
Row 1 passed OK
Contraption: Hide Page Link at row 2, column 1 says: Currently set to block page 'Examine Receptionist', pageid 176
Success at row 2 column 1
Row 2 passed OK
Contraption: Add Page Access at row 3, column 1 says: Currently set to link to page 'Examine Receptionist', pageid 175
Success at row 3 column 1
Row 3 passed OK

According to the debugger everything works fine, yet when I enter from world I see both pages. (175 and 176).
If I enter that room from another room it works fine. The problem is really only when coming from world.

I've solved this by blocking both pages and adding a second program which unblocks the female comment for females.
Though this should not be necessary.

Second, we weren't doing a call to write_updated_place_prefs(); before redirecting the player. write_updated_place_prefs(); is... well, it writes back all the updated place prefs to the database, in a single query. Smile One query to load, one query to save. Normally it's the last thing we do, but we bounced the player off the page before we called it, so nothing got written back.

Also. It would seem that when you enter your building from the map, the first rooms Program(s) don't work properly. The bug report says they fire, but nothing happens. But when you come from another room they work flawlessly.

A lot of bugs related to Contraptions were caused by the roomid not being set correctly when you first entered a Place. Sorted now, which should also sort this issue.

Did you try setting the Display Page and Set Memory Contraptions on the same line?

The Display page wasn't an issue, Onigiri. The Contrivance that checked the memory was the issue in the commons, since the memory from the Program in the Atrium wasn't get set correctly. Big Grin

Gotta love logic.

Smile One query to load, one query to save. Normally it's the last thing we do, but we bounced the player off the page before we called it, so nothing got written back.

Ha, makes perfect sense... so both problems were actually one. Can I assume from your detailed explanation that you changed the order of the redirect and it's fixed now? Big Grin

I'm going to tack this on here, as I can't find where I saw the answer, but there HAS to be some way to speed up the builds.

This is a sample of the current building times for adding 20 wood for a new page.
Page gen: 181.604s / 181 queries (174.942s), cache 133 successful (0.009s) / 1 failed. Average for this account: 0.245s - 100762.144/411404

Adding 10 stone:
Page gen: 104.712s / 132 queries (98.987s), cache 122 successful (0.008s) / 1 failed. Average for this account: 0.245s - 100866.856/411405

181 and 104 seconds respectively, 285 seconds together, not counting the time it took me to realize the 20 wood had finally added... almost 5 min. to build a single page.

I know you have millions of wood and stone items in the database table that controls this read... but at the rate it's going, you'd have to be reading most of the table every time to have this slow a read. Have you tried re-indexing the table? or adding a new index to key off players better?

Or maybe it's just my character.

Please, I'm not being critical, other than trying to find a solution to this issue. I have so little time on the island as it is... so please, let me know if I can help at all.

Kagero then logs in to find the following message:
You set up to take your rightful place in this sleeping spot, but someone else has already beaten you to it! Bah!

You can quite safely discard them. They look like this:

'9506060' = 'array(2) {
'item' = ''
'inventorylocation' = 'main'

... which is not going to be useful for anything. Very likely a Scrapyard bug, as Maniak suggested above.

If you keep on going in the scrapyard until you fall over from lack of stam, then at the end you get the two options -

I) Keep item and leave
II) Drop item and leave

without any mention of what C or C the item actually is. This might be related.

A workaround, for now, is to set up a program in another room that takes the memento, then jump in and out of the room. That'll stock your inventory.

To elaborate a little on this issue, it seems that a Natural New Day does not award the stamina bonus of a Single Bed, while using a chronosphere does.

Minor, but still a bug. Smile

Bringing this bug up again, as it is now more than minor.

The program increments a memory module, then checks that memory module to see if it's less than say 40. If it is, it shows a page edited for someone that hasn't been to my place that much.

The Show Page glitch shows the page if they are new correctly, then shows the regular text below, ignoring my setting to NOT display that text... Confusing to new players.

Thanks and keep up the great work. I'm enjoying the new additions immensely.

This isn't a glitch - this is the intended behaviour, so that the same Page can be more easily re-used elsewhere in the Place with different Programs. Use the "Hide Room Description" if you're calling a Page from within a Program and don't want to show the Room text after the Page.

Please fix fast; that's a huge, huge waste of cigs if it's broken, and I can't even go back to getting +15% instead. 50 cigs is a fuckload for something that is, right now, essentially a temporary purpose.

2. Room/page/exterior description box breaks if you use:

The description is entered, and when the job is completed, it does work. But the preview breaks, showing the error message and only displaying the text after the last "non-allowed" code:

Where encountered
Every time I set any decoration job.

`J is reserved for fourth-wall-breaking game messages, typically shown to newbs. As for alignment, I'll look into that.

Dunno about system newday, haven't hit one of those since I found the bug. But it happens with chronos, which used to be the safe way to get stam out of the double bed.

Exit the bed and then get back in, and see if that knocks it into gear.

Does that mean that J should not be used and will no longer work? If so, I will have to reorganise a lot of my decorations, because I use it here and there for individual letters or words or areas (not the way the game uses it, to OOC describe what's going on with a double-linebreak each side), and I'm sure others do too.

I feel the need to protest the change to `J - This is something that's been bugging me since J's removal as a commentary color this time last year.

While a system/moderator-only color/text styling does make sense, removing a color that people can (or could) already use elsewhere seems... unpleasant. Especially if they can only use it in some places, but not others depending on a semi-arbitrary set of rules. I could see the addition of a new tag, but taking out a color (A rather useful/popular one, no less) seems like a poor choice.

I think there may be a problem with door ordering.

Linking to my Fourth Floor room (2182) I have the following doors (this is the order they are listed in Master Settings):

Door 2326 to Welcome Hall (Room 2099)
Door 2448 to Bar and Common Room (Room 2104)
Door 2444 to Second floor (Room 2113)
Door 2450 to Third floor (Room 2180)
Door 2334 to Edith's room (Room 2186)
Door 2335 to Buck's room (Room 2187)
Door 2333 to Buddleia's room (Room 2184)
Door 2452 to Fifth floor (Room 2183)
Door 2337 to Syd's room (Room 2190)

Following HM's very helpful advice, I have set their sort orders to be:
Door 2326 (WH): 40
Door 2448 (Bar): 50
Door 2444 (2nd): 60
Door 2450 (3rd) 70
Door 2334 (Edy): 100
Door 2335 (Buck): 110
Door 2333 (Budd): 90
Door 2452 (5th): 80
Door 2337 (Syd): 120

So they should display as:
1. 2326 [40] (to Welcome hall)
2. 2448 [50] (to Bar and common room)
3. 2444 [60] (to second floor)
4. 2450 [70] (to third floor)
5. 2452 [80] (to fifth floor)
6. 2333 [90] (to Budd's room)
7. 2334 [100] (to Edy's room)
8. 2335 [110] (to Buck's room)
9. 2337 [120] (to Syd's room)

And yet, they display in this order:
1. Door 2452 [80] (fifth floor)
1. Door 2333 [90] (to Budd's room)
1. Door 2334 [100] (to Edith's room)
1. Door 2335 [110] (to Buck's room)
1. Door 2337 [120] (to Syd's room)
1. Door 2326 [40] (to welcome hall)
1. Door 2448 [50] (to bar)
1. Door 2444 [60] (to second floor)
1. Door 2450 [70] (to third floor)

It's not that they need leading zeros, or at least I don't think it is (presumably they would go 100,110,120,40,50,60,70,80,90 if they did). It's just ... messed up somehow? (So helpful, I know.)

I don't want to try and imagine what this will do when the other sixteen doors connect to it.

And this is just one room of at least fifty...

So I tried it again, entered the same name, and the screen still said I had not defined any Memories.

Then I checked my inventory, and two of the four Memories have been taken from my Lodge bag. So, I tried making a Program that would set the Memory, and the "Set Memory" contraption can't find either of the two Memories. Confused

Did I miss a step somewhere? Did my Memories get misplaced?

Also, and this may or may not be related, but I noticed the Contrivances and Contraptions that were in the box don't combine with the C&C's I already had in my building inventory. I transferred the C&C's directly from my Lodge Bag to the Building Inventory (because it worked), but they didn't add to the totals of the C&C's I'd already dropped there from the Scrapyard. Everything is still there, though, I didn't lose any, I just thought that was weird.

I think you go idle faster, now, which exhibits that same exact behavior (possibly a recent tweak to reduce server load), and it'll lock out the chat. For me, it takes two refreshes to get it back to normal.

The Place where this occurred is placeid = 67. The Place where the players actually were is placeid = 677.

Edited to add:
Petition 6366 gives other examples. What's happening is that LIKE is picking up players whose locations include a partial match on placeid. Possibly all that's needed is to escape the metacharacter '_' with '\'. If that doesn't solve it, might have to winnow the list afterwards for an exact match on placeid.

Tree shadows (and, I believe raindrop graphics) that are used in programs in pages don't show up if the page is reached via another program. Is this intentional?

I've been trying to use the raindrop graphics in a pool in the mansions. 'Heavy rain' if you go down the wet slide into it, and 'light rain' if you climb down into it. So the main room and a page that you get directed to if you came from the appropriate previous room. I appear to just get 'heavy rain' regardless of which way I come in.

The big thing that this is going to mess up is the weather systems. I thought that you could just build one such system in a private room (private by being hidden, off a locked room, or whatever) and then in each room that you wanted to use it, have a contraption to show your weather page. But this won't work.

Then I thought, OK, you have a whole weather room with a weather system in it with a room coming off it (both decorated blankly) and then have contraptions point to this. But that doesn't work either.

As far as I can tell, you have to build an entire system, with all the grids and C&Cs that that entails, in every room that you want weather. That's a little excessive for anybody with more than one or two such rooms. Surely nobody but the most hardened of masochists is going to do that.

Am I missing something here?

I'd still be happy if the Current Build Jobs menu would display which rooms the set doors would be linking ...

... oh, and I just found that if you set a new door between two unlinked rooms, and then set another identical door before that build job is completed, you can still duplicate doors.

I suspect that that was what happened in the first place. I `ithought`i that it had told me off for trying to build a door between two rooms that already had one. I might still be wrong of course.

Since it was said in the badnav page that such bugs had not been reproduced yet in Linux, well, here's what happened:

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Firefox 15.0.1 with Adblock (disabled) and DownloadHelper extensions
Went to "List Clans" in NP Clan Hall, and did middle-click-open-in-bg-tab on a bunch of them. Each instead loaded the same clan as the first (SWEET). Then the original page went to badnav.

badnav page repeats every time I reload improbableisland.com. Normal behavior restored automatically just now, after about an hour. The badnav page is shown below, even on reloads:

Error page message:
We're showing you ... on these links.
If you see this message consistently, please add your tuppence'orth to this forum thread. [i]sr123's note: This link still points to the Season2 badnav thread![/i]

Thank you for helping!

The text on that badnav page is obsolete -- we do now have a problem-reporting system, and that's where CMJ looks for diagnostic information whenever he takes a deep breath and dives once again down the badnav rabbit hole. When you run into a badnav, it's best to submit a petition. Your character information will be connected to it, which will make it easier for him to contact you if he has questions for you.

That said...

In this particular case, I think I know what went wrong. The Island, in general, does not take kindly to a player having multiple tabs open at once. There are a few exceptions (MoTD, distractions, petitions, that sort of thing...), but the List Clans page is not one of them. It does not open in a background tab. You can only see the details of one clan at a time.
