I know there's already a Suggest a Contrivance and Contraption thread, but this is different.
This is stuff I'd love to see happen for Places in more than just programming.
General organization, ease of use, etc. If there's already a thread like this than my apologies!
Here's my Wish List in order of how much easier it'd make life.
1) Start Multiple Build Jobs
As in, if I want to build fifteen pages off of the same room. It'd be really splendid if I could just click "Create Jobs." "Add Pages" And then have a little input for how many I wanted to build. This would cut down a lot of tedious clicking and counting time (I know I've mentioned that in a thread somewhere before but I couldn't remember which one). This'd be great for building your Place in general, too. Since doors are built as separate entities I don't see why we can't just open up our place and say "Build 30 Rooms." Then have it render your big list of build jobs for you.
2) Have the Page Settings be a subset of Room Settings in the Master Settings.
That isn't too elegantly worded, but what I mean there is that, when you open up a room to tinker with it in the Master Settings, there's another slide-down that has a list and access to all the pages that come specifically off of that room. I'd love to see this in the Programming sections, too. I think it would really clean up those pages as well as make organizing a lot easier for everyone. In my opinion, at least. The way my mind works my Rooms are like drawers and my Pages for those rooms are all kept in that drawer, but the way the Master Settings page is laid out right now it's like I've got a dresser full of drawers and Pages all over my carpet.
3) Destruction Tool
Like a rentable tool box, it could be a massive sledgehammer that you can use to take down extra doors you've built on accident, extra pages you've accidentally slapped on the wrong room, and other little building snafus that happen from time to time. I'd be happy if this existed even without any return of building materials. That's how badly I want it. And maybe a tool to move spare grids from one room to another? Because I've accidentally added grids to places, too. I am scatterbrained.
4)Access to C&Cs from Building Inventory.
As in, they don't all have to be in my Backpack or Lodge Bag for me to use them in Programming.
5)Page Origin in Build Screen
When you're building a Page, it'd be nice to see what room it is coming off of in the Construction scene. Same with what doors are connecting to what.
And that's all I can think of right now... >_>
Just wanted to say thanks because I know this happened a while ago but one of the things on my list was erasing stuff and now I can ! Yay!
I really like these ideas! As an aspiring place builder extraordinaire, I see these ideas as extremely useful and time saving! I really hope this bump will help CMJ see this thread!
That's a good point. Perhaps a gadget that acts as a UP (without needing a Run Prog in every room) instead? This would cover Global Pages and other things besides. I think this has been mooted elsewhere, but I can't find it.
Also, while I'm in this thread, being able to input numbers from the keyboard to a Thought would open up possibilities, which could be interesting.
The issue with UP is that it still needs a program with a run program (from what I can remember). And that means another 25SP per room/program.
Also adding another wish of mine. Global Pages. Pages that can be accessed from any part of the Place without having to use a program to call it.

For the love that all that is holy, I'm gonna bump this thread and add my bit.
First of all, strong support for 2 (especially as regards the programs list), 4 and 5. 4 in particular would make things a lot nicer when you're programming. 1 wouldn't be bad either.
As mentioned in 3, I've got excess unused grids, lines and columns all over the place, either due to changing my mind at a later date or else just plain good old fashioned stupidity. If they could go back into my pack as spare rows/whatever then that would be right handy, it would also mean I'd experiment a lot more freely knowing something isn't permanent if it doesn't work.
One more thing I'd like to add. For each program grid, a small text area where you can make notes. Similar to Remark or Comment lines in more traditional programming languages. I find that going back to programs that I've written more than a fortnight ago can be most perplexing. What on earth was I thinking when I did that?
I'm sure that there are other things, but I've been thinking for the last few days and can't remember anything. When i next do some programming I'm sure that I'll come up with plenty of wish list fodder.
Note functions would be really nice. I keep telling myself I should keep them in a separate doc.
Then I don't.
Bump. This idea is awesome.
