I've been really impressesd with some of the musical diversity found here on the island, and have enjoyed sharing my own music with other.

I usually listen to screamo, heavy metal, or hard rock. My favorite bands are too numerous to list, but they include Senses Fail, Aerosmith, Disturbed, and Led Zeppelin.

Heh, I was a fan of Aerosmith for a long time [was even part of AeroForce One for a bit], I'm actually going to the concert down here. [Actually....I've been to a few of theirs, some being one with KISS and Motley Crue.]
Good times.
Uh, anyway, most of what I listen to can range completely different.
One day I might wanna listen to orchestrated videogame music [Yes, I know, that's weird, but bear with me.], the other day I might wanna listen to....Gorillaz or Aerosmith, then sometimes I'll listen to really upbeat bouncy stuff, or something slower and relaxing.
*scratches her head in confusion* This is usually why I don't like talking about what type of music I like, it's too damn complicated.

And although they didn't get into the list there, I also like Aerosmith! Actually I bought their Toys In The Attic album in a music shop in Cuba. I think it was probably the newest American CD in there (this being around 1998, and Toys in the Attic being released sometime around 1975).

@CMJ Whoa. That first one is good.
My taste in music is... diverse. The only major limitation is that I often tend to like music with vocals more, while having a slight dislike of hip-hop. And a slight antipathy against what I consider mainstream music. (Which sometimes oh-so-suddenly turns into a Hey, they're not THAT bad attitude after really listening)
There is Metal and Rock, which is kind of my favourite genre, and scatters of a wide variety, going from Pop over Classic Music and Gothic and D&B and Austropop and Ambient and Grunge and so on. Which doesn't equal to that I will listen to everything, but that I am experimenting quite a lot.
Some of my favourites are: Seether, Wir Sind Helden, Skindred, Daisy Chainsaw/Queen Adreena, Jeans Team, Bloc Party, Kittie, Korn, Greenday, and Mötley Crü. Those are currently on my playlist. And Life's Decay. A lot..

Speaking of 8bit music, check this out. It's an 8bit cover of Paranoid by Black Sabbath.

*shame* It is like picking a favorite child to save from a burning house when I put music on my hundred twenty gig iPod. There is not enough room on there. I'm going to cheat! Here are some artists/bands/whatever who've come up on shuffle in the last day or two:
Fleet Foxes; Eels; Dr. Dog; Fleetwood Mac; Led Zeppelin; Bon Iver; Heart; Jefferson Airplane; Jennifer Warnes & Leonard Cohen; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; Passion Pit; Pogo; Kanye West; Lewis & Clarke; Soko; Calexico; Simon & Garfunkel; Belly; Grizzly Bear; David Bowie; MGMT; Cream; Live; Handsome Furs; The Futureheads; R.E.M.; Blitzen Trapper; Natalie Portman's Shaved Head; Queen; Ray Charles; Dan Deacon; Anais Mitchell; Godspeed You! Black Emperor; Edith Piaf; The Flaming Lips; Genesis; Gorillaz; Beatles; Joni Mitchell; Owen; Bob Dylan; M.I.A.; Ratatat; Carly Simon; Of Montreal; Iron & Wine; Modest Mouse; Mozart; Okay; Paul Simon; Radiohead; Andrew Bird; Pink Floyd; Roy Orbison; Sinead O'Connor; Katy Perry; The Cars; Supertramp; Opeth; Journey; Wolf Parade; Black-Eyed Peas; The Chieftains; Joe Cocker; Sufjan Stevens; Tom Petty; Vonda Shepard; Woods; Beethoven; Okkervil River; Janis Joplin; Philip Glass; Arab Strap; Rush; !!!; The Byrds; Yeah Yeah Yeahs; America; Gloria Estefan; Britney Spears; Cake; The Pipettes; Jackson Browne; Alela Diane; Beirut; Cat Stevens; Laura Marling; The Gordon Highlanders; Daft Punk; The Fiery Furnaces; Scala & Kolacny Brothers; Mogwai; Amy Winehouse; The Books; Joanna Newsom; The B-52s; Dizzy Gillespie; Oh No! Oh My!; The Rapture; Michael McDonald; The Go! Team; Haydn; The National; Andrea Bocelli; Bell; Why?.
And I.. I like mash-ups.. *shuffles feet* Those are really hit or miss, though. There are a lot of bad mashes floating around the Internet. Let's see, shall I ruin some songs for you?:
Freelance Hellraiser - A Stroke of Genius (The Strokes vs. Christina Aguilera)
Along Came Jones - World Maps (Daft Punk vs. Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
ABX - Drug Drug Kiss Kiss (Chris Brown vs. A.C. Newman)
ABX - Flirt (Shoreline) (R. Kelly vs. Broken Social Scene)
Lobsterdust - Pussycats Gone To Heaven (The Pixies vs. The Pussycat Dolls)
Also, I'm guilty of stitching together a sort of soundtrack of songs that match the first arc and a half of the story Sessine and I have been hammering out on the Island.
And I'm with Sicpuess on that first link you posted, CMJ; that Thom Yorke redo is pretty a whole lot of good!

I must say, I have a very diverse bunch of favorites (and I'll probably think of 10 more after I post this...)
Headwater
Beach Boys
Beatles
Gorillaz
abba
flanders & swann (funny songs!)
Gilbert and Sullivan
Johnny Cash
Ricky Martin
Eagles
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
and a bunch of other random songs of which I'm not entirely sure of who wrote them...
As I said, random.

*draws out correlation* Yeah, figures. Island full of loons, playlists full of diversity.
To Z: That metaphor scores pretty high. Children. Somehow interesting how the collection altogether is compared to a burning house, orphanage. But then! Miss Tisty saves the day! By rescuing the dog.

Orchestrated video game remixes ftw.
Here's my Pandora station, which may or may not contain songs I actually enjoy, but is a close facsimile at the least.
