 Any interest in a specialised client?

On the technical side, I found that the thing I was considering for use with this, wxWidgets, doesn't really have any sort of cross-platform web browsing capability. There's something that could display Improbable Island on Windows, and a different control that could display Improbable Island on a Macintosh, and nothing to run the Island on Linux. Frown The most reasonable option, a greasemonkey script, didn't really go far enough for me - I wanted to move the Island out of a browser entirely. Make it look like a stand-alone game, add some dedicated UI for some of the stuff. Make the game page refresh if it hadn't loaded in 3 seconds (or whatever), that sort of thing. Add a utility to help with the text colours (colour ramps, selector, etc).

Technically, due to the fact that it works just fine in any browser and I don't want to make a platform-specific client, I'm not moving ahead with it now.
Socially, I think automation of learning skills or fighting would drive a bit of a wedge into the community. Those of us who actually *worked* for their maxed-out skills would have their achievement cheapened. So, with that feature scratched, one of the main motivations for making the client was lost.

I *might* still do something with colours, but we'll see. Neutral

This is one of the biggest humps of thinking that need to be overcome. I "worked" to get my maxed-out skills up. I did a repetitive grind that ate up a lot of time without the most minimum of enjoyment. Do I want all future comers to have to follow my path? No. It's stupid to have to spend hours at a time clicking a single key for a single activity in order to perform better overall in the game.

As one of the biggest grinders in the game who cheerily brute-forces through the more boring elements of games, I say don't let "cheapening the achievement" stop the fixes to a poor game design. People in my position will just suck it up.

In fact, a lot of us will probably just lord over others with that fact. "What, you have 100 skill now? BIG DEAL! I had to do it when you didn't have the x10 feature!" And so we'll always be on a high horse that no one else could ever get onto.

Yeah, this happened in that update-that-was-not-the-last-but-still-pretty-new. Best update to the iOS around!
