Oh, this is lovely! Renovated combat for the Jokers?
Balancing, I would figure. The clubs and Spades were... Really very powerful before. This is much more interesting now, looking at all of these new things.
Joker tradition! DRAW AGAIN!

No, really, I'm looking at these fights. I am actually intrigued enough to hit F over and over again to see what it is I am drawing into my hand.
That's... Very interesting.
Really, like...
You get the benefits of Diamonds and hearts, and spades from having only one at a time. Or at least, I suppose it does, sometimes it seems a little strange. Then it multiplies with more of the same suit I suppose.
Maybe the idea of having poker hands could be brought up? Get a straight (Sort of) with spade, club, diamond, and heart or something. Have all black or all red hands...

At first, I was like "Merde, the cards got nerfed. At least you can see what you get now." Then I played a little more, and it turned into "Ooh, it's really nice to look at. But weak..." and it swiftly turned into "Okay, their power have been decreased for a reason; let's see the extent of this interesting stuff."
I like it, thought as Victoria said, more combinations would be welcome.
Good job breaking it, then gluing it back into a shinier version, Dan!
Yes, I have a dream, of electronic sheeps and linen bedsheets. But that's not the point. Or isn't it?

It hasn't been nerfed, exactly.
You have a Club, right? That increases your Attack for that round. You have a hand of four cards, yeah? You get four clubs, ya got me? Now ya gets an extra card. The effects are exponential, y'see what I'm sayin'?
Attack Multiplier:
1 CLUB: 1.01
2 CLUBS: 1.04
3 CLUBS: 1.14
4 CLUBS: 1.32
5 CLUBS: 1.63
6 CLUBS: 2.08
7 CLUBS: 2.72
8 CLUBS: 3.56
9 CLUBS: 4.65
10 CLUBS: 6
There's no upper limit to the size of your hand. Although in tests simulating many tens of thousands of draws, I only managed to get a hand of nine once.

It hasn't been nerfed?
Meh, I suppose having 2, then 8, then 8 req is the same as 18 req. (First being the new Joker Tradition, the latter being the first card system)
How is the card-picking calculated? Simple RNG, or complex equations? To me, it does seem that same cards appear less often in a row...

What's the equation that models the attack multiplier function? Or should I do an exponential regression and find out for myself?

I managed a seven. Almost an eight several times over. SO CLOSE!
-Really though, I love this feature. It didn't nerf the cards at all. To the contrary, it seemed to make them much more powerful, really.

Not nerfed. Not nerfed at all. When I saw my defense debuff today, I fully expected to be sent to the Failboat on my very first fight. Here I am... still alive, still fighting, I've-forgotten-to-keep-track-how-many fights later. Still fascinated.
This is FUN! I love it.

Wholly agree! I had very poor debuffs on fighting, but good on hunting. These cards kept me well alive through 280% stamina. (Had been saving that 3-steak day for a really good roll.)
It is so very Joker-esque that it is very appropriate! I am now no longer upset about the lack of a reroll or anything. And the powers are kind of substituted with carrying iBombs, which are abundant to Jokers and non-jokers alike anyway. A good replacement, I think.

I agree, from what you guys have been saying, it was enough to make me try Jokers again, instead of my usual Midget, and I'm finding it much improved. Good work CMJ!
Some people see the glass as half full, some people see it as half empty, I just spit in the cup until it isn't a problem anymore.

Since there's already a thread talking about cards, I will add this to it rather than start a new one.
I think there should be a 1/53 chance of drawing a Joker card during combat. And when you do, the world goes insane. Maybe your enemy's health doubles. Maybe you get three times the amount of req you normally would. Or some fun, interesting things like you find with the Improbable Bombs (nothing that outright kills you, though, that would be horribly unfair). Whatever the effects are, I wholeheartedly believe that Joker cards should be included in the Joker deck. It doesn't make sense for them not to be in there
Anyway, let me know what you think of this.
Also, I love the new system. It isn't as helpful as the old one, but it's a lot more fun. And sexier, too

I think it's more powerful than the old system -- and very cleverly designed it is, too. Unlike... clan buffs, for instance, this gets more advantageous as the day wears on and the size of your hand grows.

I've found it the same. These new powers seem better than the previous.

After what seemed like* weeks as a robot, and hating nearly every minute of it - surprising as I used to enjoy being a Gobot - I have had my first day as a joker. Blimey. Not that I understand the first thing about it. But blimey nonetheless.
*was, actually

Argh?
I really can't make a joker yet. Just can't. And now I really want to! Just to see what you're talking about!
So... intrigued...

Ooh, I'm loving this. Even bad days are better with this system of cards...
