Right, you lot. I've gotta keep this quick 'cause I'm getting married tomorrow. Tents are on the back burner until I can flesh out the concept a bit more. Here's what I wrote last night on Houses, on my PDA while Emily was asleep. Basically Houses and Tents will run on similar systems but will have different abilities and costs, so I can see folks choosing to use both.
DWELLINGS
Better sort this out at last.
Houses go on the Map.
Building:
Players gather wood using new Stamina actions and rented
saw/pickaxe iitems (or chainsaw weapon) in dense jungle areas and mountainous places, take as heavy IItems to where they want to build their house or to other places on the map (players can pick up and put down these two iitems on the map and they'll stay there, in other words). Other players can help with the gathering and building too. Any player can take wood and stone that has not been turned into a partial house.
Building the house takes a long time, and perhaps many people. Player can hire the services of a carpenter / builder if they have more Req than Stamina. Finally they will need a locksmith to sort out a lock and key.
When the first stage of the house is done, player will gain a private chat area and a small amount of extra daily Stamina when sleeping in his house.
Player can unlock the door to allow players in, or can have extra keys made. Player can also kick players out. Include list of players in house.
House starts with:
1 room, with:
0 description characters (standard bare description).
5% - numsleepingplayers daily Stamina boost for overnight sleeping (2 players sleeping = 4% stamina gain for each).
4 player capacity.
Using Stamina actions and IItems, players can:
Extend description characters (painting and decorating skill, paint and "rented decorating tools" iitems);
Increase room size (and thus player cap) using building action and material iitems;
Add extra rooms using building action and material iitems.
Furniture (impcentral):
Iitem-store locker
Refrigerated Meat locker
Grill (reduces Stamina cost for cooking while in house)
Sleeping bags / beds of varying quality (improve Stamina boost)
All furniture lowers the number of players who can inhabit a room at once.
Right, I've gotta go now and memorize my vows and stuff, 'cause I don't want Emily to be a widow to this game before we're even married.

Congrats Joe. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we wish you lots of happiness and good luck.
Also, I want a house. That's all I'm going to say.
I make the many models of a mutant individual. To make them I use vegetables, animals, and minerals. From robot bugs to zombie bears to many singing barnacles.

Oooh, houses! I'm building 'The House at the Edge of the World'! Even though it will take me weeks to drag all the materials up there!
And, wow, marriage.. my condolences. or congratulations, if Ms. Caveman gets to read this...
"Censure acquits the Raven, but pursues the Dove."
"So, that means i'm -always- innocent, right?"

I feel like I have done something! Even though it was probably the equivalent of taking a cattle-prod to a Caveman...
CONGRATS DAN and EMILY!
And I'm off to go dance a little. Finally, the Compound shall rise again.

Alright, well I'm going to ask this because it needs to be addressed.
If at least one of these is 'Yes' I'll be good, but they do need to be answered.
Can we expect that this will be the next update?
Will this be brought before everything else?
I don't expect the time to be immediate or even relatively soon, but will this happen within the Month of December?
And more optimistically, will this happen within the month of November?
--I'm not going to try to hammer you down to anything, but dwellings have been on the block for quite a while with absolutely no development that I can see. I just want some reassurances.

Congratulations for the wedding! That is a wonderful thing!
Ball-and-chain is a lovable situation. Really. Some of us are probably jealous
On the matter of housing, is it possible to build it on water? It'd be awesome to have one in the middle of the lake. Or somewhere insanely remote at the border of the map. Just sayin'.
Yes, I have a dream, of electronic sheeps and linen bedsheets. But that's not the point. Or isn't it?

Congratulations!
-Fantastic to see something about dwellings, too. There is something that I'd like to address, though. "Four player maximum" is the limit of players that can sleep in the house, correct? Or does this mean that only four people can enter the home and access the private chat area at one time?

Might I also add in a "Congratulations, Dan and Emily!!!"
Glad to hear of it!
Excited about housing, too, I must say!
Oh, and Neeip...

I'm afraid my ex-ex-wife may already have first dibs up there with here Ice-Fortress. Any arguments may be taken up with her army of Snow-men.
Otherwise, would be happy to help!

Wow, I have so many questions, foremost of which is what is a PDA?
Congratulations to you and Emily. I'm glad to hear that you'll be getting a new mount before we get dwellings.
