I am all for Sessine's suggestion. I've ignored that space long enough!
And yeah, the mouse-over thing would be really cool too. (But killing that space would be awesome.)

Does this new system save the titles of your character at the time, too?
Let's say I make a comment with Title A. Then a day later I change to Title B. Will my first comment still have Title A? I would LOVE that.
I agree about removing the space after the name in a comment.
Another thing I would like is the ability to hide my race from other players, but not hide my weapon from other players. I've have fun making custom weapons.(Though that applied more in season 1, where you could make your own, and not buy a custom weapon.)
Please do something with italics. Something other than the code. The code breaks waaay too much, making entire sentences become italicized, which can really mess up some comments.

... at least have them appear in the preview. And have broken italics not affect following comments.

If we're talking about things appearing in preview, would it be possible to show specials as they'll appear when posted? Instead of:
Tyr says. "/special A voice from the heavens proclaims, "Oh goddamn I capitalized Special again and mucked it up.""

THAT! Scratch everything else I said, knowing if a special is typed correctly would be amazing.

Yes! I've been doing the odd spot of guerilla building here and there, leaving anonymous messages for people. Sort of doesn't work when you leave you name by mistake followed by "\special" comment.
Having said that, seeing italics as well would be rather nice. And what Sessine said about the space after your name.

So, an update on the enhanced commentary system.
The new system is ready to roll, and if I can summon up the courage (it involves a modification to the Accounts table!) I'll be going live with it tonight.
Right now it's pretty much the same as the system we have, albeit a hell of a lot faster, and all icons, character names, titles, races, weapons, donator status and so forth is stored at the time of posting. The only thing that's looked up fresh is the Online/Offline/Nearby status. You've also got separate prefs for showing/hiding your weapons and races.
Under the hood, we've got a lot of changes. The code that retrieved the comments from the database, styled them, arranged them, displayed them and showed the comment entry box has been broken up into a few smaller functions, so that we can do these things separately from each other if needs be. The new commentary system is also set up for dual-channel chat; channels can be shown or hidden via your Preferences AND via quick links at the top of commentary areas.

*fist pump* Awesome! I look forward to it. I'm not sure if the weapon/race difference will change anything for me, as my character's not particularly prone to using the weapons she has on her... but I'm still sure lots of people will rejoice! And I'm definitely gleeful about the information being stored, not looked up, as being able to see what people had or were is going to be very nice.
Now, if only you'll be able to muster the courage to implement it...

Now I've got two reasons to celebrate! Enhanced commentry system and INFINITE CLAN BUFFS!
A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a trombone; what else does a man need to be happy?

I'm sure everyone (including the Mods and CMJ) are already aware of this, but I believe it has to be said:
New Commentary system is broken....
Also: can we get an option to turn off others' weapon icons too?

But when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, the sky's the limit.

I agree with Katt, it'll be awesome when it's working properly... but it needs a few kinks ironed out first. /special Comments don't seem to be working and actions, wether using : or /me are posting up as if they're spoken text... it's a bit odd.
Perhaps there are some new rules for using the system that we just haven't caught on to yet?

I think they're posting as they're caught in the "commentary export". meaning that if you start a line with : then it shows the :...if you start it with /me, etc.
Also, it looks like if people have an avatar, it shows up as their "mouseover description"...which is currently far from mouseover...

Mouseovers aren't working in Firefox, it seems...I'm getting giant avatars stuck into the default text, and can't see colored names...erm...can't turn off others' weapon icons...can't disable "site supporter" icons...

Are there any special things we should be doing? Colours seem to be jinxing, and I'm in clan halls right now trying to figure out how to remove the " that appears after every emote.
