The process:

Printed the image out and put it behind the screen.

Drew the picture on the screen with drawing fluid.

Then spread the screen filler over it.

And then once the drawing fluid is washed out, voila.

Applause! It's great work, Kel. Especially when it's done yourself, although you make it look so simple. I know have the urge to go buy my own supplies for that.

WAUGH!

... woman, the fact that you SCREENPRINT shouldn't surprise me. But you are marvellous, and marvellous, and marvellous again.

How much were the supplies? I thought screenprinting was fairly 'spensive...

That is so COOL. You know, if you/CMJ/whoever has the right to do this sort of thing sold II merchandise, there would definitely be demand. I for one would love an Improbable Island shirt!

Thanks!

For the questions:

I didn't actually show all of my mess ups and practice runs before I got the stencil correct.

I got a super discount on supplies, but a starting kit is about $100 before discount.

I, of course, am not selling shirts of CMJ's fabulous stuff. He SHOULD do merch though. We would all love it.

Finally, *slaps at Chim's hands* No! Mine!

So if you're not Selling it....

Mr. Green

Isn't sanity just a one-trick pony anyway? All you get is one trick: rational thinking. But when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, the sky's the limit.

@CMJ:

Why do you have to do everything when you have an army of Santa's Little Helpers?

Here's a notion:

1) Set up a Cafepress site. Or have Z or Sessine do it for you.
2) On the Gallery of Shame, or somesuch -- set up an area to take in II schwag image submissions.
3) Let the Island vote. Or pick a winner.
4) Use that design to create Cafepress/II schwag.
5) Winning design player gets SPs.
6) You and Emily get cash.
7) Repeat contest in 3 months.

I mean, look at the INTENSE loyalty your players have to you, the game, the Island.
Leveraging a bit of that for guerrilla marketing is NOT a sin.

Just sayin' is all.

I would definitely clean out the Improbable Island Gift Shop, you mark my words...I wouldn't buy the shirts in the female sizes, though.

CMJ's Little Helper here has long since priced out t-shirts // other merch and looked at the quality of shirts from places like CafePress, Zazzle, Spreadshirt, Redbubble, etc. as compared to local printers.

We can produce better products to put into all'a y'all's outstretched hands if we print locally and order in bulk on the other items. It's also much more economical for us, with a stronger and more cohesive design aesthetic. Wink

@Z:
Glad y'all have taken a close look at things.
However it happens is however it happens.
Point is, ain't happened yet, and while it's not my problem/issue/challenge, it is, IMO a rather obvious and heretofore missed opportunity.
Leverage/synergize/crowdsource as y'all see fit.
(Insert Nike Tagline Here).
But yeah, I'm imagining scores of awesome T-shirts at the next Comicon (or similar event), and if it's not available by then, hey, I'll order from a player and wear it proudly. Or make it myself with a Sharpie and a gallon of rum. The Sharpie will be applied internally, and the rum externally.
Or something like that.

Maintaining control is kinda not what the Internet's about, y'all.
But you knew that.

Re: MAGfest: I can't just give them two weeks to make major marketing decisions!!!
Also, stuck on Left Coast of US ATM, so (sniff), no frolicking in VA for me.

But seriously, the intersection set of gamers/game enthusiasts/alpha nerds and would-be Islanders has got to be...potentially vast.

And getting a little merch out there, along the lines of what Ms. Hellebore has MADE WITH HER OWN TWO HANDS(!) [along with a suitably tasteful URL directing folks TO the Island] is not the craziest idea. Is it?

I just have this fantasy of folks wandering around with commemorative merch sporks (also featuring the URL), rabbit-on-head t-shirts, and LARPING with cardboard Cat-Launchers.

And that's not the craziest idea either, innit?

Mousepads, coffee mugs and rabbit-on-head thongs are just the side benefits of the Cafe Press (and many fine similar sites!) essperiance.
