I have been trekking across the map, updating the Land Registry for Places.

(For easy access, there are two hotlinks: tinyurl.com/ii-land-reg and goo.gl/bpkRR. I've also added the LandReg to the Classifieds page to help people find it.)

It is now fully mapped, with which dwelling is where; for most of these, I have also listed the owner. I am in the process of listing the PlaceID (this may be useful since, as reported, the Who's Online list currently shows Place ID, not name) and information on which Places are open to visitors, which are private, which have beds, which have teleport beacons, etc.

To quote my G+ post:

If anyone would like their Place/s listed as Public (open house), Private (by invitation only) or Open (semi-private house that is open to visitors), please let me know.

My strategy so far:
If a Place is locked, I am listing it as Private.

If a Place is unlocked, and obviously a public space - like Soup and Pants, or the Shelter from the Outdoors - I am listing it as Public.

For intermediate places - not totally public, not totally private - there is an intermediate status, Open.

For example:
KIND Tower is listed as Public, because it is designed as a space for everyone to visit and use. Sleepers, explorers and roleplayers are all welcome at any time. A few rooms are locked/hidden because I haven't yet set a description, and the taken clannie rooms are locked for privacy.

Buddleia's House is listed as Open, because it is unlocked, and I do want people to be able to explore, read, and write in it. However, its main purpose is as my character's house; a couple of areas are locked for privacy and plot reasons (for example, because I don't want to find a random rookie asleep in my bedroom, when there are beds in the front room and three guest rooms available from the front room).

If anyone would like to help with the data gathering/checking, or just to tell me their houses' details, that would be much appreciated.
Useful information:
  • X,Y (map coordinates)
  • Which plot number (first, second, third or fourth Place on that square)
  • Place Name
  • Place ID
  • Public/Open/Private status
  • If beds are available for public use, and if so, how many
  • Size of building, number of public rooms or s/m/l/xl
  • Any special features, e.g. Teleport beacons, cards, Stations.
  • If they would like the list to hide the owner name, and/or to show another name
  • Anything else, e.g. if it's a building for a clan, or similar.

A report on my findings so far:

Assuming that my listing, counting and formulae are correct ...
  • There are 802 Places on the map, owned by approximately 526 people. (Note: not all dwellings have obvious owners. This is the maximum it could be, counting all unknowns as different people.).

  • There are 199 people who own three or more Places (38%), of whom 48 who own six or more (9%). The record is 18
    owned by one person.

  • Of the 802 Places, 327 are still Empty Plots (41%), and 121 Untitled Places (15%). Of the 182 places where the owner has three to five Places, 97 are similarly undeveloped (53%); for the 149 places where the owner has six or more, 76 are undeveloped (51%).

  • Of the 660 buildable squares (on the 25x40=1000 map), there are now 441 which have at least one dwelling (67%).

  • There are now 68 squares where all four plots are filled (10%).

  • Of these 68 squares, a total of 12 are occupied solely by one person, 5 solely by a clan, and 7 solely by a pair/group for related places (35%).

  • There are 219 buildable squares remaining that have no other dwellings (33%).

  • There are a total of 1841 unclaimed plots remaining (until such time as some Places are deleted and/or CMJ decides to raise the plots-per-square limit) (70%).

A map of our population density:

KEY:
Red : all four plots taken
Orange: 3/4
Yellow: 2/4
Green: 1/4
White: none claimed
Grey: unbuildable terrain (ocean, river, swamp)

As you can see, there are a lot more Places in the south/east, and hotspots on the cities. Also (possibly related to the phenomenon of one person taking all four plots), people seem to like to have the first plot on each square, regarding one house as taken territory rather than welcoming neighbours: there are a great many more squares with one plot (256) than there are with two (80).

I've finally updated the LandReg again. It needed doing, with expiring stakes and Creator Bundles.

Many many thanks to Sessine who went SQL-diving for me, generating a 704-row table for me to work from! I've spent more than a week working on it: there was a great deal to check out in-game, and a great deal of reorganising, fiddling, formatting, checking and so on. Now, we're up to date. I think.

Apart from being up to date, the most obvious change is that many places are now listed as owned by "Anonymous" (or "?"). This is because many people make Places which are not theirs in-character, and many people make Places which they do not want to be publically known for.

If the owner was not obvious from the Place's name, exterior description, or first room (if unlocked) - or the Place was not already well-known as being owned by someone - I put it as "?". If I have been informed, directly or indirectly, that the owner wants to not be publically known for a Place, I'm putting it as "Anonymous". Please, if anyone wants to be Anonymous, let me know and/or change the LandReg! Of course, if anyone sees their own Place listed as owned by Anonymous or ?, and they want to be known, then also let me know and/or change it.

Anyway! We're up to date, at least for today. Random interesting findings so far (contrast to November 2011, above):

  • There are 748 Places on the map, owned by 391 different people.

  • 285 people own 1 Place; 46 own 2, and 21 own three.

  • There are 64 people who own three or more Places (16%), of who 19 own 6 or more (5%).

  • The average (including outliers like the elephants, stations, Heritage and Anonymous) is 1.8 Places per player-who-owns-Places.

  • Of the 748 Places, 36 are Empty Plots (5%). 22 are Untitled Places (3%).

  • There are now 44 squares where all four plots are filled (7%).

  • Of these 44 fully-claimed squares, a total of 16 are occupied solely by one person, one clan or one group for related Places (36%).

  • There are a total of 1893 unclaimed plots remaining (72%).

  • There are a total of 228 totally unclaimed buildable squares remaining (35%).

  • According to the names of Places, there are:
    54 Houses
    38 Places
    27 Cottages
    19 Beaches
    17 Improbable things
    14 Homes
    14 Trees
    13 Castles
    12 Centers/Centres
    11 Jungles/forests
    11 Towers
    11 Stone places
    10 Huts
    10 Halls
    10 Tea things
    9 Caves
    8 Forts/Fortresses
    8 HQs/Headquarters
    8 Shacks
    8 Holes
    7 Mansions/Manses
    7 Inns
    6 Abandoned things
    6 Dark things
    6 Retreats
    5 Gardens
    4 Treehouses
    4 Taverns
    4 Rests
    4 Wolf things
    3 Mills
    3 Libraries
    3 Sanctuaries
    3 Sanctums
    2 Coffee things
    2 Portals
    2 Dragon things

(Or, rather, there are that many hits for ctrl-F for those words - so the places' names include those words.)

Note: not all of these numbers match up perfectly to what you may see on the LandReg. The owners, particularly, is working from Sessine's original data (which for SQLly reasons also did not include Empty Plots), not what shows in the List.

An updated map of our population density:
(Red 4/4, orange 3/4, yellow 2/4, cream 1/4, white 0/4 plots claimed)

The most populous areas are still the south and southeast.

All the town squares are fully claimed. KT has only 2 plots remaining unclaimed within 1 move of town. IC and NH both have 7, PV has 8, AH and CC have 14, and NP has 15. Squathole is on unbuildable terrain; it has 11 plots remaining within 2 moves.

Inversely, that means that KT has 34/36 plots-within-1-move claimed, IC and 29/36, PV 24/32, AH 22/36, CC 18/32, and NP 9/36; SQ is 12/20 within-2-moves.

Thus giving occupancies within-1-buildable-square for each town:
Kittania: 94%
Improbable Central: 81%
NewHome: 81%
Pleasantville: 75%
AceHigh: 61%
Squathole: 60%
Cyber City 404: 56%
New Pittsburgh: 25%

I don't know about being so excited - maybe the only one with farm in its name, but there are beekeeper's fields and rye fields, both of which I would classify as a farm. That's just off the top of my head; there's likely more. There are also orchards (which I'd also call a farm), and probably some of those listed as "garden" are some type of farm too.

I think it's interesting that there are now fewer dwelling-builders, and slightly fewer dwellings. I wonder why that is the case. Do people think they are too complicated now? Was it just a big rush at the beginning and then people lost interest after two resets? Are the sort of people who build dwellings in shorter supply these days?

...Also I find it hilarious that there are 8 "holes".

Oh yes, I know! Wink I was just being silly. There's a vineyard down by Kitt a friend of mine made long before I made the Farmstead. Smile I'm sure if we actually looked at the content of some Places we'd find all sorts of similarities (Casinos, and even more rockets, for example), or even find dissimilarities between places (Such as the Titan Watches getting confused for Titan Rockets). :3
