We idea, how about an anti-thieving midgets (anti-taxman?) certificate that makes it so when you get fail boated you don't lose your reqs. I'm sure many people, especially those that dive into breached outposts, would spring for one of these.

I'd rather have that, but for experience points. I don't yet have enough things to throw Req at. And I still don't know what the point of custom tattoos would be.
SSBM: On the off-chance that Rose/Twosocks Monkey/Rosemoo/whoever is reading this: Oh. Yes. I did summon the dead. The spam-post thing must've been it. Possibly lord fowl's. Of course, no-one reads these, so, whatever.

Coolness factor. Having them show up in your bio as individual distinguishing marks for your character.

It's just UK Daylight Savings. It'll be back up once the servers sort themselves out.

EDIT: And then it was back as soon as I posted! Laughing Out Loud

That's a relief. Thought it had gone belly up. Passed on. Kicked the bucket. Shuffled off this mortal coil. Run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!!

Teleportation between Places (Might need to be careful with this one, since it could potentially be exploitable). A different type of Teleporter Beacon that would allow for travel between Places that contain this type of Teleporter Beacon. The Beacon itself could be purchasable with SP, and then need to be charged with cigs, or costs an OST to use. This would be very handy to transfer materials from one Place to another without triggering a NewDay if you have a Barn Raiser or Builder's Brew active. Alternatively, simply make this a feature that costs some SP to use in the current Teleporter Beacons. (The suggestion itself is for a way to travel between Places without having to exit a Place and trigger a NewDay)

Perhaps this, but only with materials? Like shove a dozen stones in, shove your hard-earned tobacco in, and hope that it doesn't explode? It would eliminate the exploit of quick-travel around the island, while still moving the materials you'd need without it being twelve thousand trips. Also, possibly set a limit on how much material it can send in a single day?

EDIT: Also, make it limited-time, so that they won't all be bought by people after they get their free points from BOINC, having a huge network set up to make walking trivial.

I'm pretty sure someone's said it already, but I want a giant tacky fundraising thermometer. giant. Tall and skinny. I want donating a fiver to make an observable difference. That'll get me to scrape my wallet out.

...which is better: Throwing a large lump some, or small ginger amounts.

Ooh, ooh, I can answer this one! Small donations are also very welcome, whenever the impulse moves you -- but "all at once" leaves more money for Dan because PayPal takes a fee from each transaction.

Edit: Oh, this thread was supposed to be about item ideas, wasn't it? Okay, how about this? Items that would let you invoke an NPC to subtract from the built-up monster count in a designated outpost -- and make the flavour text actually worth something:

Subtract 100 - Elias hands you an innocent-looking seashell, 100 sp
Subtract 500 - (mn... accepting flavour suggestions, here.) 500 sp
Subtract 1000 - 750 sp
Clear the Outpost - The Watcher calls in an Air Strike! (costs 2000 sp)

I agree with this, as well as the idea of having teleporters between places.

The half off of boxes and healing certificates would be nice again. I remember when I first joined, in the middle of that last time...

And I betcha plushies would go right out the window ^_^

Maybe if we could get an item that...stops one-hit-KO Jungle hunting? To where it stops you from going to the fail boat (yet still have only 1 HP)?

Here's an idea that cropped up in another current thread: an enhanced version of the Take Memento contraption -- one that could stash the memento in the inventory of a different Place.

Why it's good: it would allow for Multi-Place Errands (Wongo's clever suggestion) to be set up to be (almost) self-maintaining.

Would buy.

I believe that's already possible by what CMJ posted in the Scavenger Hunt thread.

Couple things that come to mind...

Memento contrivances only work with mementos you created. I think you can get around this if you make a mould and give the mould to someone else. Then they should be able to use a Memento contrivance for that memento in their place. Basically, you have to pass the mould around to everyone who's going to use that as part of their programming. I haven't tried this, though, and I don't know if anyone else has...

You can also set the Give Memento Contraption's parameters and then give the Contraption away, like this:

1. Get mould.
2. Make Mementos.
3. Get Give Memento Contraption (GMC).
4. Put GMC in one of your own Program Grids.
5. Set GMC to give your Memento.
6. Pick up GMC.
7. Give GMC to player whose house it will go in.
8. Put lots of Mementos in the Place Inventory of said house.

Basicly get the memento (give, get) and set them yourself to your item then give the person you want to distribute your item the set contrivances. The parameters stay set until changed apparently.. haven't tested this myself though.

No, I think that what Sessine would like is to have a Contraption that when put in Place A will take mementos and put them in Place A's inventory. I think that Things (as mentioned in another thread which I'm too lazy to find right now) might do the job instead though.

Surely, you mean he wants Mementos & Things taken in Place A to go to Place B.

Every time someone uses the word "Things", I quietly whisper "Yes!", while mentally doing a victory dance.
SSBM: Only if capitalized correctly, though.

I threw in a few bucks, and oh man, if they make custom tattoos, I'd make one for every single one of my characters. And anyone who knows me knows I'd do it.

I'd be the one asking for money.

Please, sirs, I need just one in the shape of an amoeba. And then I'll only need 35 more.

And I'm with Rose, if we can somehow get that Spiderkitty in mass production, even if we shrink down the design to Beanie Baby status, I would buy the crap out of that.

Another Idea is some new posters.
-The 'staff' of the Island- The Watcher, Corporal Punishment, Mr Stern, other NPCs that I know are in CMJ's head, even CMJ himself.
-The 15 (I think it's 15) forms of the Lion.
-A bulletin, much like the ZAP grenade poster, that announces Dr. Improbable's latest invention.
-'Postcards' of all the Outposts. 'New Pittsburgh-Wish you were dead.' 'Squathole-Get out.'

I make the many models of a mutant individual. To make them I use vegetables, animals, and minerals. From robot bugs to zombie bears to many singing barnacles.

Did someone explain to the Person Of Limited Imagination why custom tattoos are a good idea? Because I really don't know how to put it any other way. They're custom tattoos. They are tattoos, that are customized. Um.... That's it.

PLI, here. Please note the difference in the following two lines of typing:

Tattoos: Phoenix, Bear, Heart, "I Love FML"

Tattoos: Phoenix, Bear, Heart, "I Love FML"

Answer: One was in the Tattoo section of the bio, the other was in the description part. The only other difference was cost.

*shrug*
So, yeah. I guess other people might want them, along with custom race and stuff, but I don't see it.

FML, lots of people are already paying to get a custom race, a custom title, a custom name colour, an extended biography, an avatar, a mount customiser, a custom weapon description, a custom armour description ... and all of that could go in the biography too. (Via links if necessary. Some people already add links to their bios.) And yet, people are still willing to pay for more than what they could squeeze in to the defaults. This is a suggestion for one more way of customising a character; several people have already said they would pay for it. Maybe I wouldn't, and maybe you wouldn't, but is it really necessary for you to keep questioning it? This is an ideas thread.

Back on topic, more suggestions:

  • Related to the above: custom jewellery. How about: you buy a default from Oliver's, for cigs. Then, you go to the Lodge, and buy a "jewellery customiser" which allows you to rename it? Or, you go to Oliver's, and there's a link to "Ask him about his custom work" and it has a "name your desired item, for X Supporter Points per character" link? (That model could work for Petra, too. I wonder, would there be an upper limit for number of tattoos?)

  • Keyholders to be able to buy Contrivances and Contraptions from in the Program Menu. Impulse purchases of "but I just need one more Previous Room and two Display Pages to finish this grid!" might not be a huge immediate earner, but they would be very convenient for builders and would likely bring in a steady trickle.

  • A bought gadget for setting Pages to Open Air/Indoor/Open Air With Trees, for those times when you build an indoor room but one of its pages should really be outside, or vice versa (bedroom with Look Out Of Window, or garden with shed, or similar). Perhaps even buyable from the program list (see above).

  • A Complete Decoration Job Now feature, from the Show Current Jobs page. For those times when you are too impatient/lazy to spend the time starving your character for three gamedays, then feeding them up to the eyebrows on Noodly Noodles, then going to IC for kits, then buying and drinking a Builder's Brew, then going back to your house. It'd need a bit of maths to work out the approximate in-game cost of gathering and fetching the materials and doing the jobs (stam, cigs, Brew) and making this a SP-equivalent price for building/deco turns ... but you might get some people who want their new Pages now so that they can add this bit of flavour text and try out that program they were thinking of...

  • Related: buying wood and stone direct from in the Place Inventory. (Come to think of it, maybe there should be a whole submenu for Buy Place Improvements, rather than tacking them on to the current menus/pages.)

Budd I totally agree with your ideas about (well LOTS of things but specifically this):

It would kill me to constantly be spending cash on little things like that...but the impulse buy is just...you can't ignore that. I KNOW I would shell out sometimes for just that last thing, rather than do all the traipsing...I just...I get lazy like that. Lots of people do.
