Hello folks,
I have become stuck in a badnav. It's the whitescreen variety. Running Linux, using FireFox.
I was interested to see that here http://enquirer.improbableisland.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=badnav someone said that they couldn't trigger a badnav on Linux, so I thought I'd mention it here before attempting to install Chrome and go through alternate fixes.
I was in the Rook pub in NewHome. I was attempting to participate in banter, and was directed to read the FAQ before I could post. I clicked the link, read the four rules, and clicked on the left, I forget what it said, but it was along the lines of "Read more details here." I got the whitescreen, and couldn't get back out again.
My username is LizardBreath. (Years ago I had a different identity, when the Island was new, but I let it go fallow and the account was lost to the sands of time.)
Thank you for any help you can offer in getting me disentangled.
Mary (LizardBreath)

Also, how does one petition a mod for help with this sort of problem? I can't navigate *anywhere* on the Island right now, so I'm sorry if that's a dumb question.

You should be okay now. I've used the Mod Claw of Rescue to haul LizardBreath out of limbo.
Y'know, there's a good chance your old character can be restored. Not perfectly, but pretty well. If you'd like that, then once you get back in as LizardBreath, submit a petition telling me your old character name and we will take it from there.
EDIT: The "someone" who wrote that Badnav wiki page is CMJ, the PHP wizard who runs the game. It was undoubtedly a spot-on accurate technical summary of what was known about badnavs when he wrote it in 2010, and is still a really good explanation; however, that was almost five years ago. Since then, two important points have been established:
1. Badnavs are never going to disappear. They are a fact of life on the Island that we're just going to have to live with. They have many, many possible causes -- and can, in fact, also be caused by code bugs. This is not as serious as it sounds because...
2. We also have a lot of moderators in the game now, and mods have been given a tool that will blank out a character's navs. The game knows what to do if it doesn't have any information about where the character should be. It plonks the character down in the middle of Improbable Central, dusts its hands off, and says, "There! Dealt with!"
What this means is that you can always be rescued. All you have to do is let a mod know... and after a sudden (possibly disconcerting) teleport to IC, you can start playing the game again. But, wait, what if the badnav is so bad that you don't see any links to submit a petition? Here's the secret: wait about 15 minutes! Your character will be automatically timed out, and you will see the login page. From there, you can submit a petition. Just make sure that you mention your character's name so we can find you, because a petition from the login page doesn't automatically connect up to your character.
Or, there's always the Enquirer! This works, too, as you just discovered.

Elmarc is my character and he is trapped in a looping badnav.
Yes, I run Linux, and I began playing under Chrome. Trying Firefox gave the same results.

Thanks! It took 1 login, a refresh of the page that followed (a redirect to nowhere), then I could go to the Outpost.

I was in the same position as the original poster, but using Windows and ending up with a looping badnav.
May I be rescued, please?
Character name: Cab
(sorry my username isn't longer or more complicated. I assume it would be easier to find otherwise)

Should be sorted now Cab. Let me know if it's not. Turns out it was actually quite easy to find as it happens, although in general you're right. Long, complicated names are usually easier.

Thank you so much! Sorry for the late response. Was out of town and mostly away from computer. Thanks!

Maybe there should be an 'Official Badnav Rescue' thread in here somewhere.
I'm currently stuck with the username Fredthebadger, and might need rescuing depending on what happens when I get logged off and try to log back in.

I support the petition for an 'Official Badnav Rescue' thread.
Widdershins is stuck in a never-ending game of rooktrader counting his moves towards negative infinity.
I don't even have a log-out link. Now waiting for timeout.
Or for a mod to read my petition and rescue me.

As expected, time-out and re-log didn't make the game realize that this dumb rooktrader game ended two days ago.
Any mods on at this time of the world?

Sorry, that sentence doesn't fully make sense to me?
My account is still stuck, and my problem report is still Awaiting Attention.
Anyone reading this, could you please point a mod to my problem?
I can't play II anymore, only a never-ending game of rooktrader D:

Hi there!
I'm also stuck in a Badnav. I'm using an Amazon kindle fire HDX, running their silk browser (version 46.3.1.2490.80.10). I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to install another browser. I had attempted to view the faqs while on the rules page, but got directed to a white screen showing my stats (and a few completely irrelevant links). There was no link to flag the problem.
My username is Judii. Could I please get a rescue?
Thanks in advance.
