While I would like to have an image appear in the description, I would be satisfied if I can just have a link as a part of the room description.

Well you've got a few options. One, you can put the actual image in there as in ASCII picture!
An older user created a tool for that quite a while back: http://thedarkworld.net/projects/ii-ascii/
Another option is just saying that this bit is clearly Out Of Character, or OOC, and just link it. People will appreciate the reference, even if it's a break from character.
With that one, you can simply color it `M, which looks like the default background color, thus giving it the illusion of not being there, but most veterans know to look out for it.
You could also just use the image itself to describe the area! I'm not sure what it's of, but having an image and using it as a reference to describe something can be quite fun.
There may be some other ideas, but these are just what come to mind. Hope this helps!
PS - You can't actually make a clickable link in a description. Only in a chatspace.

That helps!
The image is of a memento and is part of the story of the clan.
I will need to be able to explain to our clan leader how to use the image as the description. I take it that as such, the description can be called and dismissed as any other description would be.
I only have access to programming, not the rooms themselves.
