The inability to use numerical keys for traveling, as we could in S1, is mildly problematic from a user standpoint.

I agree, using the number pad was much easier. Every time I went to travel, I have to remember that T is north and then figure out the other directions from that.
Also, it is very annoying that if you want to go southwest from an outpost or when passing an outpost you have to use S since V just returns you to the outpost (you use V to go southwest on any other tile).

Have to second that - and I don't even have a number pad usually.
It's the reason due to which traveling is one of the very few things where I use touchpad or mouse (I do like the wind rose. Could maybe be a little bit smaller for me, so that it possibly fit on my screen without having to scroll)

Yup, gonna need to change those keys again, what with "V" going back to the Outpost...
Not to numbers, though. Laptop users mostly don't have number pads, and I've had two blind users so far get confused with thinking the numbers mean a cost in Travel points or what-have-you.

what about making the squares clickable for where you want to go?
so you wont have to use the hotkeys..

i understand the not using the number keypad (though i would really like it back)
but where the travel keys are now (square in the center of the keyboard) makes it hard for me to use them since i have a split keyboard.
another concern i have with it, is if an accidental double click of one of the keys while travelling might make you use an expendable inventory item.
i totally support the click on a compass direction as suggested by Yrk.

WOW! guess what i just learned today...
i had grown so used to using the numeric keypad, that i never moved my mouse while out in the world,
well that habit carried over to S2.
that compass rose is awesome. please consider my previous entry to be the posting of a nincompoop. (i just wanted to use that word)

Can I be the oddball that says I like the new key placement? It makes perfect sense to me and I can still use the mouse with my right hand.
I do sympathize with hajen and her split keyboard.

Yes, Jade.
You can be the oddball.
But it looks good on you, and all.
